Introduction: In the bustling heart of Belgrade, Serbia, a hidden gem awaited its transformation into a Boutique City Hotel. The year was 2014 when the renowned architectural firm Arhi.pro undertook the exciting project. Their mission was to breathe new life into an existing building protected by The Belgrade City Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, dating back to 1925. This ambitious endeavor aimed to convert an office building into a luxury hotel while strictly adhering to the preservation guidelines for cultural monuments.

Location and Context: The chosen location for the Boutique City Hotel was truly remarkable, situated within a lively pedestrian zone near Belgrade's vibrant city center. The building, steeped in history and charm, had two floors, each exuding its own unique character. Nestled amidst the charming architecture of the city, it presented an alluring opportunity to combine history with contemporary luxury.

Project Scope: The primary objective of the project was the reconstruction and adaptation of the existing building. The architects at Arhi.pro had to meticulously plan every detail to maintain the structure's historical significance while accommodating the needs of a modern luxury hotel. As the building was protected by The Belgrade City Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, the team had to work within strict guidelines to preserve its heritage.

Design Challenges: Converting an office building into a boutique hotel was no simple task. Arhi.pro faced several challenges during the design phase. Their first and foremost concern was to preserve the architectural integrity and historical elements of the building. This meant delicately renovating the façade, maintaining the original detailing, and ensuring that any modern additions complemented the existing structure.

Another challenge was optimizing the limited space available. With an area of 1,300 square meters, the architects had to be creative in their spatial planning to provide a luxurious experience for guests without compromising on comfort or convenience.

They meticulously developed both preliminary and detailed architectural, structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) designs. The architects also took on the role of interior designers, allowing them to curate a captivating atmosphere within the hotel. The interiors were envisioned to blend contemporary elegance with historical charm, creating a unique experience for guests.

Project Outcome: While Arhi.pro's passion and dedication brought the project to life on paper, sadly, the Boutique City Hotel remained a dream. Despite the tremendous effort invested by the talented team, the project was not realized, possibly due to external factors or unforeseen circumstances.
